How do I begin practicing Kyudo?
To begin studying Kyudo in the Heki Ryu Bishu Chikurin-ha tradition, it is required to take the First Shot instruction.
What is the First Shot instruction?
First Shot provides training in Kyudo's Seven Coordinations, Shichi-do, the basic form for aligning the body and properly releasing the arrow.
The First Shot consists of two consecutive practices (i.e, two Sundays)
On the first Sunday, the student will learn the basics of the form by repeating each step with the help of an instructor. No arrows are shot on the first day of training.
On the second Sunday, the student will review Shichi-do with an instructor. After reviewing the form, the student will proceed to shoot two Ya (arrows) at a makiwara.
After completing the First Shot program, students can practice the Heki Ryu Bishu Chikurin-ha tradition not only in Boston but also at dojos that practice our tradition.
When is the next First Shot Program?
First shot instruction will take place on the First Sunday of the month.
Note: As a prerequisite, any person interested in taking First Shot instruction must observe at least one practice before starting.
How do I register for the next First Shot Program?
